Founded in 1886, "Grigore Alexandrescu" Emergency Hospital for Children is the oldest children's hospital. The hospital has 10 clinical departments with numerous compartments and auxiliary offices for inpatients, as well as consultation rooms for outpatients in 17 different specialties.

Every year the hospital carries out more than 200,000 examinations. Annually, more than 30,000 children between the ages of1 and 18 are hospitalized, over 60% of cases being surgical emergencies. "Grigore Alexandrescu" provides medical emergency services for 1,200,000 children across the country being part of the Bucharest Emergency Hospital Network, this network consists of six hospitals; two being pediatric.

The hospital offers academic and research services in the medical field, being affiliated to the University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Carol Davila". All other field units were founded based on the expertise and training obtained in the "Grigore Alexandrescu" Emergency Hospital for Children in Bucharest.

In 2005, the Plastic Surgery and Burn Reconstructive Microsurgery Clinic went into use in a new and modern building. It is the only unit in the country with this specialization and as an outcome of clinical, research and education results, this unit was accredited as an EBOPRAS European Center in 2008. Here also runs the Skin Bank, accredited by the Transplant National Association (ANT).
Medical services are provided by a team consisting of more than 1,000 employees, of which over 130 are doctors specialized in all areas of basic health: pediatrics, general surgery, plastic surgery, orthopedics, emergency, anesthesia and intensive care, epidemiology, laboratory services etc.
