New Year's Eve Ball at the HOFBURG Vienna is a fairy-tale evening at Austrian capital’s New Year’s Eve event.

Preparations for the glittering New Year’s Eve in 2014 are in full swing. Guests can look forward to beautifully decorated state rooms, an incredible artistic programme and an exquisite gala dinner as part of a truly unforgettable evening, which will be themed "L’Esprit Viennois" this year. New Year’s Eve is a night when dreams come true, a time of happiness and joy. "L’Esprit Viennois" is all about joie de vivre and the charm of the Viennese ball season.

At the very start of the evening guests will be welcomed with a glass of Sekt on the beautifully illuminated red carpet. A selection of leading soloists from the Vienna State Opera Ballet Association will give a passionate and acrobatic ballet performance choreographed by Lukas Gaudernak. The debutantes committee from the world-famous Elmayer Dance School will get the dancing underway with a performance of the Fan Polonaise in the magnificent Festsaal. Internationally celebrated soprano Ildikó Raimondi, accompanied by Anita Götz, Eugene Amesmann und Matjaž Stopinšek from the Vienna State Opera and Volksoper, will cast a spell on ballgoers with enchanting arias during the opening ceremony and the midnight show. Classics from the Viennese dance repertoire, including popular melodies by the Strauss clan, will add a touch of verve and esprit to the uniquely Viennese proceedings. As always the spellbinding midnight production plays out in front of a firework display, the Pummerin bell at St. Stephen’s and the traditional Blue Danube Waltz.

The festive opening ceremony in the magnificent Festsaal starts at 10.30pm. The debutants’ committee of the Elmayer Dance School, followed by members of the executive committee and the honorary committee enter the Festsaal in a formal procession. Carl Michael Ziehrer's fan polonaise will provide the musical backdrop.
After the Austrian national anthem and the Anthem of Europe a selection of leading soloists from the Vienna State Opera Ballet Association, among them Ketevan Papava und Eno Peci, will give a passionate and acrobatic ballet performance choreographed by Lukas Gaudernak.
Chamber music singer Ildikó Raimondi, with a rendition of the "Ah! Je ris de me voir" aria from Charles Gounod's Faust, is set to provide one of the highlights of the opening ceremony.

At midnight the “Pummerin” (boomer), the largest bell at St. Stephen’s cathedral, will ring in the New Year before guests dance their way into 2014 to the sounds of the traditional Blue Danube Waltz. The breathtaking live firework will be displayed on the Heldenplatz.
After the internationally celebrated soprano Ildikó Raimondi, accompanied by Anita Götz, Eugene Amesmann und Matjaž Stopinšek will perform a series of popular arias from works by Verdi, Puccini and Strauss, guests are invited to join in with the ever popular public quadrille.
The evening continues in the same vein with music courtesy of the Divertimento Viennese Orchestra, under the direction of Vinzenz Praxmarer. The ensemble's repertoire is full of Viennese ballroom dancing favourites as well as the legendary hits of the roaring 20s and swinging 30s
A packed line-up of other band and orchestras provide dance rhythms from the world of swing and jazz as well as famous Viennese salon music in the Zeremoniensaal, Rittersaal and Geheimen Ratstube. In the chill-out lounge and disco a live DJ set will be brewing up a storm on the mirrored dance floor!
