Dear Friends!

Welcome to our 2014 London Event being held at the prestigeous and historic premises of the British Institute of Directors. This year we are focusing on the phenomenon of the rapid growth of cities and other urban centres throughout the world.

The migration of peoples from rural to urban areas presents significant challenges to municipal managers throughout the world. These challenges do not simply take the form of planning the accommodation  needs for rapidly growing populations but also planning for the complexity of moving people into, around and between urban centres, not to mention planning the provision  of an ever increasing range of essential social services.

During the course of our event we will be debating a range of issues associated with these 21st Century issues, guided by a wide range of expert opinion and working papers presented by our participants from throughout the world.

I look forward to meeting old friends as well as making new ones over the course of our action packed programme from
15–17th April.

I feel honoured to be invited as a special guest to such an important event where representatives from public authorities and other experts can share experiences and ideas in urban development. The key theme with a special focus on the theme of the development of international integration is also of interest for Global cities.
